An Angus base is used for the traits of early puberty, moderate size, and higher palatability. However, these traits were quantified through production performance and selection was made within the herd as a result. Generations later, Clement Cattle Company had a base cow herd that included only those individuals that continually measured up to rigid performance standards and are indeed the “cream of the crop”.
