Clement Cattle Company is the breeding component of Rimrock
Cattle Company. The philosophy of Clement Cattle Company
is traditional in origin, simple in logic, and effective in
nature. The integral parts of a system are vital keys to the
autonomy of the whole. We realize that with just one missing
puzzle piece, the puzzle is incomplete. This synergy is
dependent on the essential components of Clement Cattle Company
which include their employees, cattle, genetics, records,
technology, and management.

Not
only are cows and calves paired for management purposes, but
testing the validity of the mating that produced that calf is
equally as important. Additionally, cows are expected to breed
back in 60 days without the luxury of extra inputs. On top of
that requirement, cows must produce a calf that produces a
carcass fitting the specifications of at least small choice,
yield grade 2 or 3, a 14-16 square inch ribeye and a 700-780
pound carcass.
Like maternal records, carcass ultrasound traits on every bull,
cow, and calf are recorded and tracked. Cows and feeder calves
are scanned using real time ultrasound technology to identify
ribeye area, fat thickness and percent intramuscular fat. All
carcass data is gathered on Rimrock carcasses and incorporated
back into the data archive for cows, bulls, and specific matings.
Upon harvest, each individual carcass is analyzed for
performance traits such as marbling, yield grade, ribeye area,
and fat thickness. The information is sent back to Rimrock to
incorporate into the data archive and classified in four areas:
the individual’s record, the sire’s offspring, the dam’s
offspring, and that specific mating. Equipped with this
performance data and that of consecutive offspring, empirical
numbers can be assigned to the dam and sire. As a profile
emerges from each cow and bull highlighting their genetic
capabilities, culling and mating become more efficient for the
Rimrock grid target. |
